QUINTILLA’S ROMAN COOKERY PAGES

QUINTILLA, Quintus’ long-suffering colleague, has a particular interest in Roman cookery, and hopes to place a new Roman recipe on these pages each month. Most of the recipes are taken from the ‘Ars Magirica’ of Apicius. Do try them, but don’t blame me if they’re not to your taste – ‘de gustibus non disputandum est’ – ‘there’s no point arguing about taste’ - and I take no responsibility for these recipes! I have however tried them myself, and will carefully choose only the most palatable-sounding ones, as I really think we can do without sea-urchins, capons’ testicles, and certain other unmentionable Roman delicacies.
